About Fintech Supervision


The FinTech Supervision Function within the Supervision Directorate of the MFSA is responsible for the supervision of the Virtual Financial Asset and Financial Institutions sectors in Malta as well as providing cross-sectoral expertise on digital finance and FinTech-related policy and supervisory initiatives. The Function is also responsible for the development and implementation of the MFSA FinTech Strategy and Regulatory Sandbox.

The Role


Within this role you will be joining an analytical and multidisciplinary team of policy experts and supervisors. As a Senior Analyst at Grade 6 within the FinTech Supervision Function the eventual appointee will be expected to:

  • Act as a senior contact point with licence holders, corresponding directly with these counterparties, reporting findings and resolving issues as they arise;
  • Support Senior management in the co-ordination of daily supervisory tasks through the management of a team of analysts;
  • Lead initiatives in the authorisation and supervisory workstreams under the Virtual Financial Assets Act and the Financial Institutions Act as well as other related ongoing work;
  • Lead onsite compliance inspections and/or interviews, ensuring that they are delivered with the required regulatory standards while interfacing with licence holders on an ongoing basis;
  • Undertake assessments of licence holders covering regulatory and AML/FT compliance and ICT risk;
  • Engage and address any regulatory issues that may arise in the normal course of the supervised entities' business to ensure that the level of compliance with applicable regulatory standards is maintained;
  • Liaise with the various Functions and Directorates of the Authority in the handling of the various projects and tasks, as well as other Governmental bodies and act as point of contact, when required;
  • Participate in local, EU, and international fora, including the relevant committees of the European Supervisory Authorities;
  • Undertake any other supervisory tasks or projects as delegated by line management; and
  • Act as a digital finance and FinTech champion within the MFSA

About You


We are looking for candidates with solid academic background which may be considered as relevant to this post. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.

You will also possess a minimum of five (5) years working experience in the area related to the role. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least ten (10) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.
