The story behind Yojobs.com

Yojobs.com has jobs from hundreds of companies, thousands of monthly visits, and a solid user base, but how did it come along?

It goes back a few years…

I’ve always been passionate about building technology products and solving problems through technology. And having over 20 years of experience in building software or implementing technology projects I quickly get the urge to step in when I see someone doing the same thing over and over again. In this case I was the someone doing the same thing over and over again.

I was in between jobs and living on a small island (Malta) I already had a good idea about the companies that I wanted to work for. When looking for a job usually the process goes as follows:

It’s quite a time consuming process, I’ve also highlighted the tedious / boring parts in red…. and that’s a lot of red. But luckily I had control on some of them, so I’ve decided to automate. I have quite a good technical background so I put together a few tools either by coding them myself or by using off-the-shelf products. You can think of these as mini robots that go out there every so often, check if the companies I liked have opened new roles (or even closed jobs), and if yes, inform me. And like that, I did not only make my life easier but also introduced some interesting advantages such as being the first to know when new roles opened or closed and having the most up-to-date and complete database of jobs on the island.

A week later I was looking forward to questions like “how did you get to know about this job?” ????. It didn’t end there because at the time I “only” had a few companies that I monitored and a data dump of jobs. I love turning ideas and tools into products so why not turn this into a nice little product as well? Actually more than one…. but that’s another story for another time.

A year or so later Yojobs.com has thousands of visits every month and it’s helping hundreds of job seekers with the same problem that I once had. If you are an employer and would like to be added to our jobs database, please get in touch and we’ll add them for free.

We’re no way close to done but I hope this inspires readers with some more ideas. If you have any feedback about anything I said above please or the service itself feel free to send a message or comment below!
